TO FORGIVE AND FORGET HAS BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH THE CHARACTER OF GOD AND ASSIGNED AS A MUST FOR CHRISTIANS. BUT SHOULD WE REALLY FORGET OUR TEMTATIONS TO SIN?
There is great emphasis on the idea that God forgets our sins. But that is not what the Bible teaches. Isaiah 55 says God separates us from our sin, and the Psalms tells us we have been forgiven and redeemed. James, chapter 1, tells us that for our own sake we must not forget who we are. Paul tells Timothy to flee youthful lust and not be ignorant of temptation. In Zechariah 5, we see that those who have not been repentant have their sins recorded against them. But God is willing to strike out the sin with His blood of those who willingly let Him wash them with it.
The Atonement of the Cross is not simply to wipe the slate clean so we can naeivly walk into sin again with the grace of God and have a blast while we last. We must remember that to forgive is devine but to forget who we are and how easily we can be tempted to sin is not wise.
